In the ancient time it is believed that when an emperor died then their family members use to put a handmade Chatra (umbrella) at their grave yard or place where they were burnt. This chatra was made of gold, gems, diamonds, pearls and precious stones. The significance of this chatra was to create a shade for soul of the royal king who exists there, in the part of Rajasthan. The Chatrakotli artist mainly are skilled performers demonstrating expert marksmanship when they drop any pearl of the chatri by hitting a stick in their mouth and entertain the audience through their tricks. Chatrakotli performers belong to Rajasthan region of India.
